Come to the meeting on 13th February to say no to the cuts that make families suffer





Years of benefit cuts have led to the poorest 8 year olds dying at 10 times the rate of the most wealthy children ("Is a healthy retirement only for the rich?" 23.6.23 by Eade Hemingway)  The Guardian reported in December 2023 that malnutrition and rickets admissions to hospital have tripled in the last 10 years. The benefit cuts being considered now by Redbridge Council will make the poor suffer more. 

The Guardian ran a story on 7th February saying:

"The thinktank said living standards for the poorest tenth of families, after adjusting for inflation, remained 18% below 2019-20 levels even after accounting for government support – delivering a financial blow worth £4,500 in today’s prices."

Come to the meeting on the 13th February at 7pm at Studio 1 at Ilford Central Library to make your contribution to the campaign to these harsh cuts from going ahead on at Redbridge Town Hall on 29th February. Please sign our petition at change.org/p/stop-the-cuts-to-council-tax-support which is supported by East London Community and Redbridge Trades Council

We will be promoting the meeting this Friday 9th February between midday and 2pm outside Ilford Town Hall should you wish to join us.

Deputation banned after Syed Siddiqi joins us

 The email of 21st February  below shows an email from a Council Officer saying our deputation against the cuts is in order and asks us for details.  On Monday 24th February at 20:02pm I wrote to the Town Hall to seek permission for Syed to join us. Then on Tuesday 25th February at 10;29am the deputation was banned on spurious grounds per the email below. No mention is made of the deputation  being agreed on the 21st February I have appealed to Cllr Rai to let the deputation stand with no reply as yet. If the ban stands then I and others will speculate to as why. My view if that Syed had been in the chamber he may have repeated various allegations he has made about Jas Athwal. Jas has never denied these allegations, but if Syed were to say them on the public record in a recorded council meeting just before a by-election due to Jas standing down in Mayfield ward it would be embarrassing.
